Happy New Year 2011!

Happy New Year!

On January 1st, we set a goal and try to achieve it.  Where did this idea originate from? Well, the first New Years resolutions were recorded by the Babylonians approximately 4,000 years ago!  Since the New Year was the start of the farming season, their resolutions consisted of returning farm equipment back to neighbors.

What is your New Year Resolution for 2011?

I'm going to have a different resolution for each month.

January's Resolution:  Blog daily.  For the next 31 days I will post a blog.  I have been getting many questions over the holiday season regarding food choices and how those choices relate to health.  So, here we go..

Snowflakes

It's snowing!
Snowflakes are ususally six-sided hexagonal crystals.  Snowflakes that deveop at cooler temperatures produce snowflakes with sharper tips, whereas snowflakes that develop at warmer temperatures produce  smoother tips. Here is a chart showing how the shape of the snowflake depends on the temperature:

  • 32-25° F - Thin hexagonal plates
  • 25-21° F - Needles
  • 21-14° F - Hollow columns
  • 14-10° F - Sector plates
      • (hexagons with indentations)
  • 10-3° F - Dendrites
      • (lacy hexagonal shapes)
I highly recommend the book The Secret Life of Water by Masaru Emoto.
