Chemicals found in cord blood

I hope everyone will take the time to buy products with less chemicals.  We need to protect ourselves and the future generation.  The chemicals found in a mother's bloodstream do pass through the placenta to the fetus.  Two studies, one by the Center for Disease Control and another by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found chemicals in the cord blood of babies.  Some say these chemicals will not cause disease.  However, many people ask me how come babies are born with cancer?  I think it would be a good idea to look at our environment in order to come to a conclusion.

To access the study by the EWG, visit  http://www.ewg.org/files/2009-Minority-Cord-Blood-Report.pdf

We will pay for "cheap products" somewhere.  If it's not at the register, then it may be at the doctor's office.

Some chemicals found in cord blood:
-Pesticides
-Dioxins (flame retardants)
-PFCs (used in non-stick cookware)
-Phthalates (used in fragrances and plastics)
-BPA (used in plastics)

-Perchlorate (used in rocket fuel)
-Lead
-Mercury
-Cadmium (heavy metal)
-DDT (pesticide banned in America, but not in other countries)
-Tetrabromobisphenol A (fire retardant)
-Galaxolide and Tonalide (found in synthetic fragrances)
-PFC (found in coatings for non-stick and water-resistant)
-PCBs (lubricants, coolants, insulating materials, and caulk)

How do these chemicals get into our bodies?
These chemicals enter our bloodstream by using the following:
-beauty products filled with these chemicals
-non-stick pans
-water bottles
-plastic containers
-soil our crops grow in
-pesticides sprayed on fruits and vegetables
-paint
-carpet
-laundry detergenants
-fabric softeners
-soaps with these chemicals
-cleaning supplies.

These chemical can lead to cancer, disrupt our hormones, interfere with our immune system, and are toxic to the brain.

What can we do to decrease our exposure?  Check out this week's blogs...
